Untitled Objects, 2016
Outside the exhibition space, as a prolog or an epilog, Shir Raz’s image, ‘Study Room’ (2016), is exhibited. Inside her father’s big study room closet, who did diplomatic activities for governmental organizations, Shir planted photographs of objects with an archeological quality, such as masks, stones and jugs. Those are “placed” among souvenirs and gifts her father received through the years.
Although the photograph is not edited, it looks like the objects were added on photoshop. Their flatness is confusing, disturbing, and transforming the closet to a sort of virtual cabinet of curiosities, in which the majesty of the past is condensed to a random collection of superficial diplomatic gifts.
